Sensitivity Reading

Sensitivity reading service for authors on the following topics:

  • Pregnancy and childbirth by a professional midwife (BMid, GradDip Primary Maternity Care)

  • Neurodivergence by a person with lived experience of Autism and ADHD

  • Chronic illness and chronic pain by a person with lived experience of both

As your sensitivity reader I will:

  • Ensure accuracy of pregnancy and birthing information and scenes

  • Identify any tropes, stereotypes or cliches in your writing

  • Identify problematic themes or language

  • Check that your neurodivergent characters or characters with chronic illness are fully three-dimensional

  • Work with you to come up with recommendations to improve your body of work that are accurate and sensitive in their portrayals while still honouring your voice as an author

  • 1-3 page document summarizing findings and making recommendations

  • 30 min zoom meeting to discuss findings and recommendations

Beta Reading

Beta readers can be an excellent way to get detailed feedback on your manuscript from your intended audience while you’re polishing it. Not all beta readers are created equal, and many readers don’t understand the difference between being a beta reader for a book and ARC reading, leaving authors short of meaningful feedback that can assist them to improve their manuscript as they get it ready for submission or publication.

That’s where a paid, trained beta reader can come in useful.

Critique of your characters, plot, pacing and writing
